Peregrine Falcon Territorial Defense Log #11

We are investigating territorial defense behavior against intruders at the nesting site of a breeding pair of Peregrine Falcons.

Observation Date: 2026-03-05Weather: SunnyWind: NW 4m/sTemperature: 10°C

Both Peregrine Falcons absent this morning. No individuals observed.

10:10 Both Peregrine Falcons returned. Circling high overhead at approximately 415 m.

The laser rangefinder proved very useful. Distances up to 886 m were successfully measured, even when the birds appeared only as dots to the naked eye.

Two fellow bird observers were present today, and we spent more time exchanging information than observing.

11:30 Observation ended.

Gave a loud call.

Summary (まとめ)

The laser rangefinder was used today and performed better than expected.
Being able to record precise distance measurements will be a valuable tool for this study.

Unfortunately, an Osprey entered the territory just as I was packing up to leave,
so no distance measurements could be taken.
The Peregrine Falcons did not attempt to chase it away.

This observation will be examined further in future surveys.
