We are investigating territorial defense behavior against intruders at the nesting site of a breeding pair of Peregrine Falcons.

One male Peregrine Falcon was observed on the rock face ahead (110 m), while a female was perched on the upper cliff (120 m).

The female on the cliff continued calling.

8:30 A third Peregrine Falcon briefly entered the territory, circled several times, and departed northward without direct interaction.
- 突然３羽目のハヤブサがテリトリーに侵入してきた。崖の上で鳴いていたメスは巣へ入り、岩場のオスはそのまま。３羽目のハヤブサは旋回を繰り返して北へ去っていった。
- 胸の縦斑が濃く目立つ
8:34 The female flew from the nest to a tree on the cliff ahead. Her calling then ceased.
- メスは巣から飛び正面の崖上の木へ。あれだけ鳴いていたが鳴かなくなった。
The vocalizations differed before and after the female entered the nest.
On the cliff she gave high-pitched “kee-kee” calls, whereas inside the nest she produced short “kak-kak-kak” calls.
崖上で発していた鳴き声と、侵入個体出現後に巣内で発した鳴き声は異なっていた。
崖上ではキーキーという高い声で鳴いていたが、巣に入った後はカッカッカッという短い鳴き声に変化した。

- 以前の観察では、約223 m上空を旋回していたミサゴに対してハヤブサが接近し追い払う行動を示した。一方、今回の観察では約240 m上空を通過したトビとミサゴに対してハヤブサは反応を示さなかった。
9:16 The Peregrine flew off from the tree and disappeared.

9:32 The Peregrine returned at very high speed with partially folded wings, producing an audible wing sound.
Shortly afterward, a Black Kite passed at ~120 m altitude.
The rapid return may have been related to the kite’s approach.
- 翼をたたんで凄いスピードで戻ってきた。風切り音で気づくくらいだ。すぐにトビが120ｍ上空辺りを通過する。トビが来たから猛スピードだったのかもしれない。
9:52 The second Peregrine returned and immediately entered the nest on the cliff ledge.

Summary（まとめ）
Today’s observation was particularly eventful. I was especially surprised by the sudden intrusion of a third Peregrine Falcon. I also wondered about the significance of the female’s prolonged calling immediately beforehand. I would like to accumulate enough data to formulate hypotheses regarding the changes in vocalizations. As always, I intend to build the dataset gradually and accurately.
Another point of interest today was nest use: the male entered the nest used last year, whereas the female entered an older nest that had been used several years ago. I will continue to monitor which of these nests will ultimately be used for egg-laying.
- 今日の観察は内容が濃かった。特に第3個体の侵入には驚いた。また、その直前にメスが長く鳴き続けていた意味も気になった。鳴き声の変化について仮説を立てられる程度のデータを集めたいと思う。データは今後も正確に少しずつ積み重ねていきたい。もう一つ気になった点は巣の使用である。オスは昨年の巣に入り、メスは数年前に使われていた古い巣に入った。今後どちらの巣で産卵が行われるのか注視していきたい。
